Description

As costume producer for my school's United Nations Night, I designed and sewed twenty costumes inspired by traditional West African textiles, reinterpreting them through a modern lens.

The project taught me how to create consistency across many pieces. I experimented with geometric patterns, gold accents, and bold blues that celebrated rhythm and movement.

I wanted the final look to feel joyful and powerful, honoring the vibrancy of West African aesthetics while giving it a contemporary twist that matched the energy of the performance.

This experience deepened my appreciation of craftsmanship and significance reflected in each culture's traditional clothing, contrasting with the generic feel of fast fashion.
