sweet 16!
This drawing shows my younger self imagining what it would feel like to turn sixteen, a version of me seen through the eyes of a messy haired child child who thought growing up would mean freedom and sparkle. The younger figure looks up with wonder, while the older version sits calm and composed, surrounded by bright colors that once symbolized excitement. But turning sixteen came with the realization that growing up also means learning to carry more and having more responsibility.
I used warm tones and soft textures to keep the scene nostalgic. This piece is about that quiet moment when childhood meets reality. The girl I once was finally meets the girl I've imagined. Even with its challenges, turning sixteen was still better than I imagined: in between what I dreamed of and what's still ahead.
